'Lovett’s quietly plaintive tonal music echoes the European tradition, from Bach to Satie and beyond, and feels like a soulful elegy for a Britain that has lost its bearings.' The Observer (Stephen Pritchard)
Pianist and Faber composer Anne Lovett, is to give an Institut Français recital to mark Bastille Day and the 10th anniversary of the founding of Franco-British cultural fund, Diaphonique.
The recital was recorded on 10 July and will be streamed on the Institut Français Youtube and Facebook pages on 14 July.
The programme features three of Lovett's own compositions: For Now and L'Albatros from her 2019 album "The Eleventh Hour", plus On the Run from her debut album 'Beyond (and below)'.
Also included are works by two other French composers:
- Erik Satie, like Lovett also hailing from Normandie, is represented by his Avant-dernières Pensées, Heures Séculaires et Instantanées, 3rd Gymnopédie and 3rd Gnossienne.
- And, from fellow contemporary composer Betsy Jolas, Lovett will play the 3 x Toi (originally written in 2018 for British pianist Nicolas Hodges).
The concert streams at 1230 BST on 14 July:
