Over the past 10 years, Howard Goodall's Eternal Light: A Requiem has cemented itself in the repertory of choirs across the globe, both amateur and professional, becoming one of the most performed large-scale choral works by any living composer.
It's now had almost 600 live performances since its premiere in 2008.
And in the period from 27 October to 24 November this year there are an almost unprecedented number taking place, with 27 known performances scheduled in the UK, USA, France, Belgium, Holland and Sweden. (According to Bachtrack's online concert database, that is more than either the Fauré Requiem or the Mozart Requiem for that same period!)
Many of these performances are marking the Armistice Centenary. With the work's texts including such poems as 'In Flanders Fields', 'Do Not Stand At My Grave and Weep' and 'Lead, Kindly Light', Eternal Light: A Requiem is often used in Remembrance Day and memorial contexts.
