Faber composers Colin Matthews, Oliver Knussen and Tansy Davies will each have works performed in Mexico this October as part of the UK/Mexico year of cultural exchange.
Matthews’ gritty Contraflow for chamber ensemble of 14 players, will be revived by the London Sinfonietta during their three-concert residency in Mexico. The rhythmically pugnacious 12-minute work was originally commissioned by the London Sinfonietta and the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, where it was premiered in 1992.
Knussen and Davies will feature in the Birmingham Contemporary Music Group’s programme for the internationally acclaimed ‘Festival Internacional Cervantino’ in Guanajuato, a UK-Mexico Year of Culture event. Recognised as one of the most demanding and imaginative ensembles on the international scene, the BCMG will perform two of Knussen’s most iconic works, Ophelia Dances and Songs Without Voices. The esteemed ensemble will also perform Davies’ Nature, a previous BCMG Sound Investment commission (2012).
