'…a startling, terrifying and challenging way to end a compelling Prom.' The Guardian

Jonny Greenwood's 2019 violin concerto, Horror vacui, has been been awarded the Large Orchestral Award at the 2020 Ivors Composer Awards.

Announced live on BBC Radio 3 on 1 December, Horror vacui was one of five works to have been shortlisted in that category. More information about the awards here.

Premiered at the 2019 BBC Proms, the 30-minute work is Greenwood's largest composition to date and is scored for solo violin and 68 solo strings. It was launched in the Royal Albert Hall, London on 10 September 2019 by soloist Daniel Pioro, with BBC National Orchestra of Wales, the BBC Proms Youth Ensemble and conductor Hugh Brunt. It formed part of a Late Night Prom curated by Greenwood himself and broadcast on BBC Radio 3 and BBC 4 TV.
