Young composer Francisco Coll is beginning to get quite a name for orchestral music. This latest performance – the world premiere of an extended version of Hidd’n Blue to be performed by the LSO and Thomas Adès at the Barbican on 15th Jan – adds to an already illustrious list of orchestral pieces, including Piedras, commissioned by the LA Philharmonic and performed by their new music group last year, as well as by the London Sinfonietta in November, and Aqua Cinereus premiered at the Palau de la Música, Spain in 2007. Coll is currently at work on a new piano concerto for Nicholas Hodges to be premiered in Spain in April.

Hidd’n Blue was written specifically with the LSO in mind and as Coll describes, it’s ‘3D music for a virtuoso orchestra of the 21st century.’ The piece was commissioned by the LSO Discovery Panufnik Young Composers Scheme, generously supported by the Helen Hamlyn Trust. At the premiere it will sit alongside works by Mahler and Adès.
