Faber Film & TV composer Marc Canham has scored J. Blakeson's latest thriller (starring Rosamund Pike, Peter Dinklage and Eiza González), a darkly humorous yet brutal satirical take on the American Dream, which premiered at Toronto Film Festival this weekend.
Marc worked closely with director J. Blakeson (The Disappearance of Alice Creed, Gunpowder) on the largely synth-led score that, like the overarching theme of the film, built upon the concept of greed and how far people are willing to go to achieve their desired outcome, whatever the cost.
For Marc, it was a great excuse to hide himself away in his studio with an array of noise making machinery and have fun. Inspired by the likes of Tangerine Dream, Brian Eno, CAN, Rival Consoles and Orbital, the score morphs in tone through the film with its off-kilter arpeggio-laden sardonic playfulness; into an atmospheric and at times aggressive textural assault.
