Sydney Symphony Orchestra are to take up Jonny Greenwood's 2014 composition, Water, in a live, ticketed event in Sydney Town Hall on 25 February.

Dane Lam will conduct the 18-minute work that was inspired by a line from Philip Larkin's eponymous poem from his 1964 collection, 'The Whitsun Weddings':

"And I should raise in the east
A glass of water
Where any-angled light
Would congregate endlessly."
It's a coming home for the Greenwood's work in a sense. It was originally commissioned by the Australian Chamber Orchestra as part of the composer's 2014 residency with them, and then later released by the ACO on ABC Classics. It is scored for 2 flutes, 1 or 2 tanpuras, amplified upright piano, chamber organ/sampler keyboard, & string orchestra.
