Programme Notes
The theme in Endless Sky is light ; light in both a physical and spiritual sense - to strive toward the light, and to rebel against the darkness/decay.
The main text in the piece is taken from Dante's Divina Commedia, and the title refers to the last words in Inferno, .....e quindi uscimmo a riveder lestelle - the sense of awe that comes upon seeing the stars when finally leaving the underworld.
The last part of the work uses the ancient Lux Aeterna text, with musical material based on Orlando Gibbons.
Endless Sky was commissioned by the Eric Ericson Chamber Choir and premiered by them with Eric Ericson conducting in 2004.
