Programme Notes

MARAHI is a hymn of adoration to the Divine Feminine in the form of the Virgin Mary and the buddhist Goddess Varahi. The divine love is envisaged as active in three realms: the angelic realm (major triads), the human realm (monodic lines) and the animal realm ('noise'). The hymns and sutras journey through all three equally. It is a work of ritual. Marahi was commissioned by the Deutscher Evangelischer Kirchentag, 1999 for the SWR Vokalensemble Stuttgart, conductor Rupert Huber.
