In Jonathan Harvey’s affecting Flight Elegy, a bleached violin soars high in the soundscape, whilst the pianist plays inside the instrument much of the time, seeming to evoke distant thunder and gongs. The nine-minute work is mostly unbarred, with its proportional notation adding to the general feeling of melancholy lyricism.
