In association with the Mendelssohn House, Leipzig, Edition Peters proudly presents the Mendelssohn ‘Souvenir’ edition, containing a selection of piano works intended by Mendelssohn to be played in the home, as generations of amateur musicians since the 19th century have done – learning to appreciate and love this wonderful music.
Mendelssohn’s Songs without Words, in particular, have always enjoyed immense popularity and were part of the standard repertoire in the musical salons during Mendelssohn’s time. This volume also contains pieces from Kinderstücke op. 72, which Mendelssohn wrote for the children of the Benecke family during a summer stay in London.
The edition contains 14 shorter piano pieces, mostly at a moderate level of difficulty, including the easiest of the ‘Lieder ohne Worte’, as well as Charakterstücke and Kinderstücke and several lesser-known works.
