Torsten Rasch’s 2005 Piano Trio demonstrates the composer’s ability to synthesise and invent using musical languages new and old. The 35-minute piece is recognisably Classical in its form and proportions, cast in four movements: a sonata-form opening, fiery scherzo and trio, freer and more lyrical adagio, and rondo-with-variations finale. Rasch’s musical language otherwise draws on an expressionist twelve-tone language, at times effusively lyrical and at others more terse and austere. This product comprises the piano score and parts.
