Based on a traditional dance song from Saibai, an island just south of Papua New Guinea, Sculthorpe's Song of Sea and Sky for clarinet and piano displays the composer's rare ability to capture and conjure, often through the simplest means, the living essence of a place. This 16-minute work unfolds in one continuous movement in six parts.
