Like many of his works, Bach also revised the St. John Passion several times. There is no final version in Bach's hand. The revisions concern both the instrumentation and changes in the sequence of movements and, last but not least, the addition or completion of new parts. The textual basis is the biblical report of the evangelist John (John 18 and 19) with inserts from the Gospel of Matthew (Matthew 26:75 and 27:51-52). The hymns come from the common repertoire of Bach's time and only deviate from that in a few cases. This edition is the full conductor score.

Johannes-Passion BWV 245
Wie viele seiner Werke hat Bach auch die Johannes-Passion mehrfach bearbeitet.Eine endgültige Fassung von Bachs Hand liegt nicht vor. Die Umarbeitungen betreffen sowohl die Instrumentation als auch Umstellungen in der Satzfolge und nicht zuletzt das Hinzufügen bzw. das Ergänzen neuer Partien. Die Textgrundlage bildet der biblische Bericht des Evangelisten Johannes (Joh. 18 und 19) mit den Einschüben aus dem Matthäusevangelium (Matth. 26,75 und 27, 51-52). Die Kirchenlieder entstammen dem gängigen Repertoire der Bachzeit und weichen nur in wenigen Fällen von der originalen Gestalt ab. Aufgrund des Quellenmaterials lässt sich die (vollständige) Uraufführung mit hinreichender Sicherheit auf den 7. April 1724 datieren. Bei dieser Ausgabe handelt es sich um die vollständige Dirigentenpartitur.
