Although only given its nickname after Beethoven's death, his fifth Sonata for Violin and Piano published in 1801 perfectly suits the optimistic freshness suggested by 'Spring'. Der Titel „Frühlings-Sonate“, nach der heiteren Stimmung des Werkes, stammt nicht von Beethoven selbst. Spielfreude kommt hier aber nicht nur im Rondosatz auf. Das ruhig fließende, lyrische Adagio molto espressivo des 2. Satzes ist ebenso schön zu spielen wie das Scherzo mit der Tempobezeichnung Allegro molto.
